A spectacular and highly collectible example of Italian Mid-Century Modern ceramic design, this vintage table lamp was produced by Zaccagnini of Florence for Raymor and retains its wonderfully distinctive original period character.
The sculptural ceramic body has an elegant elongated vase form, swelling gently through the center before tapering into a narrow neck with a subtly flared upper rim. Its graphic decoration is particularly striking: extremely fine vertical striping travels the length of the body, interrupted by a bold two-tone composition of deep chocolate brown and warm tawny/terracotta.
The result is quintessential 1960s Italian design — sophisticated and architectural, yet warm enough to work beautifully in a contemporary interior.
Particularly special is the lamp's original opal glass reflector/diffuser, which remains with the lamp and is in exceptional condition. The softly flared glass reflector creates a beautiful diffused glow when illuminated and was designed to accommodate an outer fabric shade fitted with a reflector-style shade fitter, should the new owner wish to add one.
The lamp is equally striking displayed with the reflector alone, allowing the sculptural ceramic base to remain the visual focus.
Condition
The ceramic body is in exceptional vintage condition, with no chips or cracks noted.
The original opal glass reflector is also beautifully preserved and is free of chips and cracks.
The white-painted metal neck and socket assembly retain their vintage finish and show some expected age-related paint loss and surface wear, as photographed.
The lamp is fully functioning and ready for use.
A new protective felt layer has been added to the underside of the base. As well as a new outer fabric lamp shade in a textured Oatmeal color fabric is also included. (Still in cellophane wrap)
Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the lamp is included with the purchase.
About Zaccagnini & Raymor
The celebrated Ugo Zaccagnini & Figli ceramic company was established in Italy in 1905. After Ugo Zaccagnini's death in 1937, the firm continued under subsequent generations and became particularly known for its innovative twentieth-century ceramic production. The company produced decorative objects, vessels and lighting and exported extensively to the United States. Premio Faenza
Raymor, the influential American importer and distributor, played an important role in introducing postwar Italian ceramics and modern design to the American market. Signed Zaccagnini pieces made for Raymor are now sought by collectors of Italian Mid-Century Modern design. Comparable signed Zaccagnini/Raymor lamps are documented with the distinctive Zaccagnini mark alongside the Raymor name. 1stDibs
This lamp's combination of documented markings, model number #4000, original glass reflector, beautiful condition and highly graphic striped decoration makes it an especially compelling example.
