A striking example of sculptural modernist jewelry, this dimensional converter brooch pendant combines polished black Lucite with warm 14K yellow gold and a sparkling diamond accent. Purchased from the same estate sale that I also acquired multiple Betty Cooke pieces.
The design features a substantial, smoothly polished oval of deep black Lucite, dramatically overlaid with two gently curved rectangular gold forms. The layered, offset construction creates an architectural three-dimensional effect, while the contrasting materials give the piece a bold and sophisticated presence. A prong-set round diamond rises from the black Lucite surface, adding an elegant point of brilliance to the otherwise minimalist composition.
