A spectacular large-scale studio pottery vase by acclaimed American ceramic artist Michael Kifer, celebrated for his expressive combinations of sculptural form, dramatic color, and contrasting surface textures.

Standing an impressive 16 inches tall, this substantial handcrafted vessel blurs the boundaries between functional pottery and contemporary ceramic sculpture.

Its tall, angular body features a rich, glossy aubergine and burgundy ground, dramatically embellished with sweeping abstract brushstrokes in turquoise, teal, lavender, blue, and soft yellow-green. Delicate golden ochre lines, spontaneous markings, and painterly gestures create an energetic composition that wraps continuously around the vessel.

The most striking feature is its extraordinary sculptural upper section. A dramatically oversized, irregular matte-black rim flows over the angular body, framing an intricately textured panel decorated with raised geometric patterns, recessed squares, circular impressions, and linear relief work.

The juxtaposition of the richly colored glossy surfaces against the deeply textured matte-black ceramic creates a stunning interplay of color, dimension, and form.

Equally compelling from every angle, this exceptional work makes a commanding statement displayed independently as a ceramic sculpture, architectural accent, or centerpiece in a curated modern interior.
