Striking vintage abstract Constructivist tabletop sculpture, circa 1960s, handcrafted from welded steel rods, masonry-style nails, and circular metal washers in a complex open geometric composition.
The sculpture is built around a three-dimensional cubic framework balanced dramatically on one corner, creating the illusion that the entire structure is suspended in space. Within the cube, an intricate arrangement of metal rods and washers intersects at varying angles, producing constantly changing patterns of line, circle, positive space, and negative space as the sculpture is viewed from different directions.
The combination of utilitarian industrial materials with a highly considered geometric composition gives the piece a wonderful Brutalist, Constructivist, and mid-century studio-art character. Warm brown oxidation, darkened steel, and brass-toned soldered joints provide rich surface variation and emphasize the handmade construction.
The cube is mounted on a slender metal support above a substantial black laminated wood cube base, allowing the upper sculpture to appear almost weightless despite its architectural form.
The work is unsigned. Its welded mixed-metal construction and experimental use of industrial materials recall the American studio-metal movement of the 1960s and 1970s, including the broader visual vocabulary associated with artists such as Silas Seandel, though no attribution is being made.
The sculpture has been given a protective clear lacquer finish, and new black felt has been applied to the underside of the base. I believe the current base may be a later replacement rather than the sculpture's original base, which may account for the lack of artist signature.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Surface oxidation, patina, weld texture, and irregularities are intrinsic to the handmade character of the piece. No structural damage noted.
Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the sculpture is included with the purchase.

Damages and issues

European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
