Dramatic and exceptionally large vintage Jaru California figurative sculpture, dated June 1985, depicting a male figure lifting a female figure high above him in an exuberant, celebratory embrace.
At an impressive 27.5 inches tall, this is one of those sculptures that immediately commands attention. The composition is full of motion: the male figure stretches upward as he lifts his companion overhead, while her elongated form and sweeping hair create a broad, flowing arc around the upper half of the sculpture. The result is wonderfully theatrical, energetic and sculptural from every angle.
The exaggerated proportions, simplified anatomy and fluid curves give the piece a distinctive 1980s modernist / postmodern decorative-art aesthetic, while the large areas of negative space keep the composition feeling surprisingly light despite its substantial 17.2-pound weight.
The surface has been fully restored in a rich metallic copper-bronze finish with subtle pearlized gold highlights, allowing the sculpted curves, recessed details and flowing lines to catch the light beautifully. A substantial clear lacquer top coat provides depth and protection while giving the surface the appearance of patinated metal.
The swirling base echoes the movement of the figures above, creating a continuous sense of upward motion from the bottom of the sculpture all the way through the raised female figure and her dramatic flowing hair.
At nearly 28 inches tall and 16 inches wide, this is a true statement piece ideally suited for a large console, pedestal, credenza, fireplace surround or other prominent architectural display. It would be especially striking in Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, Hollywood Regency, contemporary, Art Deco-inspired and eclectic interiors.

The H.M.G. marking is consistent with Jaru’s association with the Harris Marcus Group during this period.
Restoration: This sculpture is part of my ongoing restoration collection, created to preserve vintage decorative art and return deserving pieces to beautiful display condition. I have restored over 50 sculptures.
The sculpture has been carefully refinished in a sophisticated metallic copper-bronze acrylic with delicate pearlized gold accents. The restored finish was then sealed beneath a substantial clear lacquer top coat, giving the piece a rich metallic appearance while helping protect the surface for years to come.
New protective feet have also been added to the base since the photographs were taken.
The sculpture is now in excellent restored condition with no chips, cracks or structural damage.
About Jaru: Jaru Art Products was founded in Culver City, California by Jack and Ruth Hirsh, with the company name formed from the first two letters of their first names: Ja + Ru.
Jaru became known for producing and distributing distinctive decorative objects and sculpture throughout the second half of the 20th century. By the late 1960s, the company became associated with the Harris Marcus Group, and Jaru continued producing decorative art through the following decades.

Returns policy
We have a 14-day return policy, which means you have 14 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags (if applicable) and in its original packaging.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / non-returnable items
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on gift cards.
European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
