Restored Rare Jaru California Modernist “Lady in Mermaid Dress” Sculpture — 1985
Elegant vintage Jaru California figurative sculpture, dated 1985, featuring a beautifully elongated female form in a dramatic, flowing gown.
The figure is rendered with the sleek, simplified lines associated with 1980s modernist decorative sculpture. Her pose is graceful and stylized, with one arm raised behind her head while the opposite arm extends downward into the sweeping folds of the dress. The gown flares dramatically at the base, creating a sculptural mermaid-tail silhouette that gives the piece wonderful movement and visual balance.
Her facial features are intentionally minimal, allowing the long torso, curved hips and exaggerated drapery to become the focus of the composition. The overall form feels both fashion-forward and timeless, with a sophisticated silhouette that works beautifully in Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, Hollywood Regency, contemporary and minimalist interiors.
The sculpture has been fully restored in a rich hammered metallic pewter finish with a subtle texture that catches the light beautifully. A substantial clear lacquer top coat was added for depth and surface protection, giving the piece a refined metallic appearance while preserving the sculptural details.
At 21.5 inches tall, this is a substantial statement piece with enough height to stand confidently on a console, credenza, pedestal, fireplace surround or large tabletop.

Restoration
This sculpture is part of my ongoing restoration collection, created to preserve vintage decorative art and return deserving pieces to beautiful display condition. I have restored over 50 sculptures.
The sculpture has been carefully refinished in a hammered metallic pewter tone and sealed with a durable clear lacquer top coat. New protective felt feet have also been added to the base.
It is now in excellent restored condition with no chips, cracks or structural damage.
About Jaru: Jaru Art Products was founded in Culver City, California by Jack and Ruth Hirsh, with the company name formed from the first two letters of their first names: Ja + Ru.
Jaru became known for producing and distributing distinctive decorative objects and sculpture throughout the second half of the 20th century. By the late 1960s, the company became associated with the Harris Marcus Group, and Jaru continued producing decorative art through the following decades.

Returns policy
We have a 14-day return policy, which means you have 14 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags (if applicable) and in its original packaging.

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon reception and contact us immediately if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item, so that we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Exceptions / non-returnable items
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on gift cards.
European Union 14 day cooling off period
Notwithstanding the above, if the merchandise is being shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason and without a justification. As above, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method within 10 business days. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.
